Survey Shows In-House Testing on the Rise

Testing is a critical component in any quality-control plan. Testing finished cartridges (both those produced in-house and those outsourced) can help give industry members a better idea of production issues and lead to increased quality or perhaps even a supplier change, in the case of outsourced cartridges. Testing packaging or seals can help remanufacturers know that their products will arrive in consumers’ hands in the best possible shape, especially for those who ship their cartridges long distances. Taken together, these components can help assure high quality products and high levels of customer satisfaction, necessary for almost any successful business.

So it is good to hear that testing numbers are still very high. In fact, the numbers have held pretty steady from last year, with a few variations to give us higher or lower responses for specific tests, but no large changes.

Areas that saw increased testing include evaluating backgrounds on prints (more people are doing it throughout the full life cycle as well), testing of text quality and testing of package integrity.

Following a trend seen in previous years, fewer people are using outside testing services for any of their tests — down to 5 percent this year from 10 percent last year and 15 percent the year before. So not surprisingly, there is an increase in the number of people saying they test page yield and toner usage using in-house testing methods.
