As I write this the opening ceremony of the first Olympics ever held in China has just finished. It’s hard to fathom how big a thing this really is. Most of us have been familiar with the rise of China as an economic power — no, superpower — for some time, but when you look at how much has changed in that country in just a short amount of time and how world opinion of China has changed, it really is incredible that the Olympics were in China this year, attended by the leaders of the U.S., France and Russia. Think about it … The U.S. has had official full diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China for fewer than 30 years. The first U.S. president to visit China (Nixon) did so just 36 years ago. This is all very recent history.
Change is also happening in the economy and in our marketplace in a big way. Look at the number of different printers that we now have to deal with, and the number of cartridges. We kept hearing about how color was going to be big, but look at all the color toner out there — with all of its inherent challenges.
