Now that’s a refurb! As part of its new Eco Solutions program, HP announced several initiatives, the most interesting of which is a new inkjet printer made almost entirely from recycled materials. Eighty-three percent of the Deskjet D2545 printer’s total plastic weight is made from recycled plastics and it uses HP 60 ink cartridges, which are molded from recycled plastic resins. The D2545 is available at Wal-Mart stores and the HP Home & Home Office Store for $44.99. Other eco initiatives include an enterprise printing assessment service and a carbon calculator that together address energy and paper use, related carbon emissions and projected cost savings for optimized printing environments; a global paper policy governing the sustainable manufacture and use of paper HP sells to customers and uses for packaging, collateral and its own office printing; and HP Eco Highlights labels that will help customers identify environmental attributes of HP products or services.
What should we call you? FedEx Kinko’s is changing its name to FedEx Office. The company said FedEx Office better describes the wide range of services available at its retail centers and takes full advantage of the FedEx brand. The centers will be rebranded during the next several years. The company announced it has also changed leadership. Brian D. Philips, who joined FedEx in 1993, has been promoted to president and chief executive officer of FedEx Kinko’s … make that, FedEx Office.
