I got married last month. Yes, many of you knew it and were wondering how or if I’d work it into my letter. Well, I tried to be subtle but when I change my signature on the end of this letter one or two people may notice.
Unfortunately, changing my name in the pages of Recharger does not constitute a legal name change in the eyes of the U.S. government. It should — but sadly, to make it legal entails my dealing with the offices of Social Security. After three weeks and untold minutes (hours?) spent on hold, I’ve begun to wonder how Social Security would ever survive if it was a for-profit business.
All business owners know that customer service is key when it comes to keeping customers. If I was searching for cartridges and was put through the runaround Social Security has put me though, you can bet I’d have moved onto the competition long ago. No matter what your business model, you’ve got to keep the customer happy.
In this issue of Recharger we focus on retail trends, but as we were putting the issue together we realized we were focusing on much more. Certainly retail store owners are front and center when it comes to customer service, but regardless of your business model — mail order, online, outsourcer — every business faces the same issues.
