At the beginning of the year CompTIA took its PDI+ (Printing and Document Imaging) certification live. This one-exam, certification-for-life program creates a “legally defensible technology credential,” according to Joyce Keane, product manager of skills development for CompTIA. It is intended for those who want a recognized and respected third party to be able to authenticate their skills in maintaining and repairing printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and multifunction peripherals. This exam is the first vendor-neutral one in the industry to focus on repair. CDIA+ (Certified Document Imaging Architect), another of CompTIA’s exams, is aimed at those who sell solutions.
The required exam (number PD0-001) is available at both VUE (www.vue.com) and Prometric (www.prometric.com) testing centers. It consists of 85 multiple-choice questions that must be answered within 90 minutes, and the passing score is set at 675 (on a scale of 100-900). The cost is $185 for technicians who are CompTIA members and $232 for non-members.
