First, it’s an HP model. HP is once again the dominant OEM in the survey results. As has been the case in this survey’s four-year history, the majority of remanufactured toner and ink cartridges are for Hewlett-Packard SKUs.
Next, the 1012 is a toner cartridge. Although ink refillers are well represented in the survey, the majority of in-house cartridge production remains on the toner side.
Lastly, it’s a monochrome cartridge. Despite an increased number of respondents producing color cartridges, the percentage that color production makes up of total production didn’t increase this year. The message: monochrome’s not dead.
The Production Survey, taken at World Expo in August 2007 by 198 respondents, attempts to document the in-house production trends of the imaging industry aftermarket. Respondents on average have been in business for 11 years and have 198 employees. Fifty-three percent of respondents are from the U.S. and 47 percent are headquartered outside the U.S. On average, 61 percent of sales for respondents are to end users and 39 to resellers.
The Production Survey has been conducted for the past four years and comparisons with past surveys will be made when applicable. Percentages are based on the number of respondents who answered each question. Percentages don’t equal 100 where respondents were given to option to supply more than one answer.
