OJAI, Calif. — The Tiara Group LLC announced a new panel session for its 24th Annual Toners and Photoreceptors Seminar on June 6. “What Impact will Edgeline and MemJet Technologies have on the Toner Industry?” will be the topic of discussion and debate.

Joy James, managing principal of the Joy James Group, will serve as panel moderator. The Joy James Group is a management consulting firm in Laguna Niguel, Calif., that specializes in the printer cartridge market. A hyper-growth strategist, James has helped build several category-leading aftermarket and OEM printer supplies companies over the past 13 years.

Tiara Chairman Art Diamond noted that the industry is abuzz with forecasts, predictions and concerns regarding the effect that Silverbrook’s MemJet and Hewlett Packard’s Edgeline and ColorLok inkjet technologies might have on the laser printer market.

“These recent advances could displace toner-based machines at every market segment level from the low end to 70-plus-page-per-minute devices,” Diamond said. “We deemed it essential to hold a panel discussion that explores future scenarios as part of our annual assessment of the state-of-the-art and the state-of-the-business of electrophotography.”

The panelists include Graham J. Galliford of Galliford Consulting and Marketing, Steve Reynolds of Lyra Research Inc., Dr. Brian E. Springett of Fingerpost Advisers and Steve Weedon of Static Control Components Inc.

One notable feature of the 2007 event is its new Monday-to-Wednesday format. According to Tiara’s Managing Director Terry Gorka, “We switched to a Monday start to accommodate the requests of many past registrants. Nevertheless, we will still feature our annual golf tourney on Sunday, June 3, in response to popular demand.”

During the tutorial sessions on June 4, Dr. Scott Silence, principal scientist for Xerox Corporation will present “An Update on Toner Technology”; Dr. David S. Weiss, research associate with Eastman Kodak Company will provide “An Update on OPC Technology”; and, Dr. Marilyn Black, CEO of Air Quality Sciences, will discuss the “Measurement & Control of Air Quality in Plant & Office Environments.”
The group will also hear Professor Penny K. Bennett of Cal Poly present an overview of “Digital Imaging: A Growing Force in Commercial Printing.”

For the past 23 years, Diamond Research Corporation (DRC) and The Tiara Group have organized this highly focused event for registrants to conduct business, discuss sales, distribution, mergers, acquisitions, and licensing. Siting the conference at Fess Parker’s Resort (a Hilton Hotel), one of the West Coast’s most elegant venues, gives it a flavor all its own.
