Muratec Adds Workgroup MFPs

November 8, 2006
Muratec America announced the addition of the MFX-2350 and MFX-2850 to their segment two product line.

“We are pleased to introduce devices that boast such powerful workgroup functionality,” said Yutaka Moriwaki, president and CEO, Muratec America, Inc. “The MFX-2350 and MFX-2850 will not only serve as business-critical copy and print solutions, they will provide exceptional document delivery capabilities such as direct scan to folder, e-mail, FTP and fax.”

The 23 page-per-minute MFX-2350 and the 28 page-per-minute MFX-2850 are powerful solutions for the workgroup environment. Both devices feature a standard 100-sheet automatic document feeder, ledger-size platen glass, automatic mixed original detection and single pass duplex scanner that create a robust, not to mention cost-effective, document handling system.

Both devices ship with a standard paper capacity of 1,150 sheets, consisting of two 500-sheet paper cassettes that can handle letter, legal or ledger-size documents, as well as a 150-sheet multipurpose bypass tray that can handle letterhead, transparencies, envelopes and various other media. The devices can be outfitted with a variety of options to bring the total paper capacity to 3,650 sheets.

Document finishing is available on the MFX-2350 and MFX-2850. The optional three-position stapling unit features a 1,200 sheet high-capacity output tray, staples up to 50 pages and allows for shift-sort output. A two-position hole puncher is also available as an option, while the units both ship with standard collating capabilities. Duplex output is standard on the MFX-2350D and MFX-2850D.

The standard high-speed Ethernet port and 33.6 Kbps fax modem enable a host of digital document delivery solutions including scan to folder (SMB), FTP and e-mail, as well as routing to remote Internet fax terminals and analog fax devices.

Scan to folder is a key feature as it allows customers to perform a real-time browse through their network file structure and directly scan documents into specified folders, without having to install any additional hardware or software connectors. This operation mirrors the file searching process that Windows Explorer users have become accustomed to using on their PC. Up to 20 folder shortcut keys can be registered for one-touch scan initiation.

The MFX-2850 goes a step further by offering 600-dpi color scan capabilities. In addition to delivering color documents over the network, the MFX-2850 can route color documents to a network-connected color printer, creating an inexpensive color copying solution. This is enabled using the standard scan to print monitor utility.

“We strongly believe that as customers implement document management strategies they will look to convenient workgroup imaging solutions to act as their document on-ramp,” said Jim D’Emidio, vice-president of sales and marketing, Muratec America, Inc. “Last year we unleashed this type of functionality into the desktop MFP market with great success. Many of our customers had requested that we move these advanced imaging solutions upstream so that they could consolidate their workgroup imaging and output requirements into a single device."

Usability, security and regulatory compliance improvements are also prevalent on the MFX-2350 and MFX-2850. Both devices feature an intuitive touch screen which seamlessly guides users through job set-up and execution. The QWERTY keypad allows for ad-hoc e-mail address entry, as well as custom file naming, e-mail subject lines and text messages. A unique twist is the inclusion of the voice guidance system (VGS) which provides audible instructions to guide users through device programming, job execution and troubleshooting methods.

LDAP compliance enables users to quickly access contacts from within corporate directories, such as Microsoft Active Directory and Open LDAP, while NTML authentication requires user log-in prior to gaining machine access.

In an effort to retain all fax and e-mail communications that are transmitted from the MFP, both devices feature automatic transmission archiving to a secured network location. In the event of an audit the transmission record can be quickly located.

“Designing an MFP that is both sophisticated, yet intuitive, is not an easy task,” says D’Emidio. “By using features such as scan templates and folder shortcuts we can greatly reduce the keystrokes required to execute a job. Obviously security and compliance are hot-button issues with customers and these products position us to meet their requirements.”

In addition to enabling powerful digital document delivery, the MFX-2350 and MFX-2850 boast standard GDI-based network printing via the high-speed Ethernet connection, as well as local printing via the USB port. A redesigned PCL controller, featuring a 600 MHz processor, is available as an option.

The MFX-2350 features an MSRP of $7,465 while the MFX-2350D, which includes standard duplex output capabilities, features an MSRP of $7,995. The MFX-2850 features an MSRP of $8,165 while the MFX-2850D, which includes standard duplex output capabilities, features an MSRP of $8,765.

The toner yield is rated at 17,500 impressions @ 6% page coverage for both devices. The drum unit and developer are rated at 70,000 impressions for the MFX-2350 and 80,000 impressions for the MFX-2850.
