Lanier Introduces New GelSprinter Inkjets

August 1, 2006

Lanier introduced the Lanier GX3000, GX3050N and GX5050N GelSprinter printers, three hybrid desktop printers that deliver up to 29 or 30 ppm in color or black and white with image quality up to an equivalent of 3,600-by-1,200 dpi. All three feature innovative gel ink technology, and will be available immediately.

“These revolutionary desktop printers completely transform the dynamics of inkjet printing,” said Dominic Pontrelli, vice president of marketing. “Traditionally, end users expect inkjet printers to have a low purchase price and high ease of use, but with expensive supplies and color quality that is, at best, merely adequate for business documents. GelSprinter printers from Lanier solve this problem, combining the best qualities of inkjet and laser systems to deliver high-quality color at a very affordable price — without compromising reliability or end-user convenience.”

The GX3000 prints up to 29 ppm in standalone configurations. The GX3050N has the same speed, but adds network connectivity. The GX5050N is slightly faster at 30 ppm, and features a 33% higher duty cycle, optional high-capacity paper tray, and optional high-yield gel ink cartridges. Like inkjet printers, the GX3000/3050N/5050N printers cost less to acquire than a low-volume desktop laser printer. Plus, they offer a comparable cost per page to laser printers for both full-color and monochrome output, which is dramatically lower than conventional inkjet systems.

“These printers provide very low total cost of ownership and the ability to deliver laser-like color quality,” Pontrelli said. “They are rewriting the rules of inkjet printing. The key is GelSprinter technology, which brings together a stunning array of innovations in a simple desktop design.”

Specifically, GelSprinter technology involves pigment-based inks suspended in a viscous gel that bonds with the page like toner and allows the ink to “sit up” on the page. The formulation also minimizes dot spreading, sharpens color images, prevents bleed-through, and dries immediately on contact with air to eliminate smudging. In addition, GelSprinter technology utilizes a belt-driven feeding mechanism that reduces curling and helps prevent misfeeds. The printers also feature piezo-electric printheads that can print two lines simultaneously and never need to be replaced.

“With all of these advances, Lanier GelSprinter printers solve all of the maintenance and image quality issues typically associated with inkjet printers,” Pontrelli said. “The results are outstanding business color and monochrome documents for a wide range of low-volume applications.”
