How low will they go? Price points on new printers, even new color printers, are starting low and getting lower. Oki Data recently announced it has lowered the estimated street price of its C5000 series of digital color printers by as much as $200 on some models.
The new prices apply to the C5150n, C5200n and C5400 series and all its configurations. The new estimated U.S. street prices are $599 for the OKI C5150n; $799 for C5200n; $899 for C5400; $1,099 for C5400n; $1,349 for C5400dn; $1,499 for C5400tn; and $1,699 for C5400dtn.
According to the company’s Web site, black toner cartridge prices range from $45 (3,000 pages) to $52.95 (5,000) for these models. Cyan, magenta and yellow color cartridges are listed at $100 (3,000) and $130 (5,000) each. The company also offers a Rainbow Toner Pack, containing all four cartridges, for $398.49.
According to a statement, Oki Data’s new pricing strategy reflects its commitment to provide products and services that meet any printing challenge without the need for businesses to compromise one benefit for another.

The C5000 series printers are based on printing technologies pioneered by Oki Data, such as Digital LED technology and Single Pass Color technology. Single Pass Color gives the printers faster throughput on a variety of paper media.
The C5150n offers full-color pages at up to 12 pages per minute (ppm), and monochrome pages at 20 ppm. The C5150n also offers 1200 x 600 dpi resolution. As with all of the OKI digital color printers, the C5150n comes with two-piece consumables, which results in a low cost of operation. The C5200n offers speeds up to 16 ppm color and 24 ppm monochrome, and it has standard 400-sheet capacity that expands to 930 sheets. The C5400 series runs at 16 ppm color and 24 ppm monochrome. Standard features include 400-sheet capacity that expands to 930 sheets.
