When remanufacturing the HP 51626 cartridge, the vacuum test is essential. In a vacuum chamber, the pressure inside a totally sealed cartridge becomes greater than that of its environment. Any compromises of the cartridge case, nozzle or maze seal will become evident in the form of leaks. This ensures that no cartridges with invisible flaws will reach the end user. Test at 400 millimeters Hg (16 inches Hg) for two minutes.
With its familiar green top and clear body, the HP 51626 cartridge has enjoyed a relatively long run as far as inkjet cartridges are concerned.
This cartridge, used primarily in HP 500 DeskJet series printers, has undergone several revisions in design since its introduction. Gone is the ball-plugged access hole on top of the cartridge, as well as the integral maze (also known as the ink bubble generator plate) that was all but indestructible. The current maze plate is very thin, and the perimeter adhesive is sensitive to many cleaning solutions.
