ASTM F1206, which covers the evaluation of color output from printers and copiers, was unanimously accepted as appropriate for incorporation in the STM Guide. The output may be from an ink jet, thermal transfer, electrostatic or electrophotographic device.
The committee is also working toward the adoption of ink jet print evaluations that would include test methods for light stability, image density and yield.
"Our industry has been selling remanufactured ink jet cartridges for some time now," said Lester Cornelius, chairman of the Standardized Test Methods Committee. "With the incredible rush into digital photo printing, there is now a desperate need to print color photos that are not only color correct, but also can stay that way."
Standardized test methods have proven to be a vital tool of the remanufacturing industry. They offer solid data on quality and the process to track problems and implement improvements. The results are used in a number of ways to help a remanufacturer and the industry in marketing, sales and product development.
The ongoing importance of quality assurance through adoption of standardized test methods is the immediate goal of the STM Committee.
